American ginseng is widely cultivated. It is relatively easy to grow. The root is about 5 years to harvest maturity. American ginseng plants are usually started from seed. Seedlings or roots for transplanting are commercially available but rarely used. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified as “food safety principles” (GRAS).
